Morrisson: Music’s Most Mysterious Man?

After first breaking onto the scene in 2008 with his debut appearance on SBTV, it’s been an eventful journey for Morrisson in terms of his musical career.

It’s now been almost two years since any form of music has been released by the Newham born rapper; and the highly anticipated Mixtape we’ve all been promised seems to be consistently delayed.

Morrisson constantly goes through phases of total inactivity. Whether he’s deleting all of his posts on Instagram and leaving messages like “BACK SOON”, or going months on end without any form of communication on social media.

As one of Morrisson’s biggest admirers, this is always worrying.

He has already served a 4 year jail sentence, and his 3 brothers: Ant, Steve and Joey are either carrying out sentences, or recently out of prison. The latter is five years into a 16 year spell after dressing as a postman and breaking into a series of properties across Enfield, armed with a taser and a shotgun.(http://www.enfieldindependent.co.uk/news/5076364.Rogue_Enfield_postmen_jailed_for_16_years/)

So when we don’t hear word from the man himself, my fingers are always crossed in the hope that history isn’t repeating itself.

Now, I know that the whole idea of criminal participation and violence may deter people from listening to Morrisson. I also have to admit his style of music is a particularly acquired taste which is only suited to a narrow band of individuals, due to the illicit content within his lyrics.

But there is just something about ‘Big M’ that makes him, in my opinion, the best rap artist in the UK.

The rapper, residing in East London, offers his very own idiosyncratic style, and combines this with raw, hard-hitting lyrics that turn heads and instantly grab your attention.

Whether it’s his sheer presence behind a mic, or the sense of realness that accompanies Morrisson whenever he is on a track. Perhaps even the fact that there is no beating around the bush, what you see is what you get. There is no glamorising the dangerous lifestyle that M leads, and you can tell that the tales depicted through his rhymes are just what Morrisson has to deal with on a daily basis.

I know for a fact that Morrisson has only put in about 30% of the effort that he could have in terms of musical production over the years. But, unfortunately for us fans, Morrisson has other recreational activities and business that have to be taken care of, and you have to respect that. Like he said in his SBTV 3rd Degree Freestyle: “No silver spoon sh*t, I had to work for what I got.”

(Morrisson second from right)

Over the years Morrisson has collaborated with numerous established members of the Grime scene, including Krept and Konan, Giggs and Fekky to name a handful. So there is no doubt that the man has cemented himself as a competent member of the UK rap collective.

A collaboration with Australian rapper Kerser also seems to be beckoning, with the pair communicating over Instagram and expressing their desire to work together in the near future.

I felt it was apt to compose an article on Morrisson because not only is he my favourite rapper, but there is also a distinct lack of information on him across the web. To the point where even I, after listening keenly for years, am still unsure of Morrisson’s first name and age.

But Hey, who cares what the mans name is. As long as he carries on pumping out those raw lyrics on top of big beats I really could not care less!
